SHOCKWAVE "PLUS" IN STREATHAM
• Central London quality care in your neighbourhood
• Treatment of resistant tendon problems
• Treatment uniquely combined with low level laser therapy at no additional cost
Shockwave therapy is recognised by NICE as a safe treatment for chronic tendon problems, such as plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, repetitive strain injuries and Achilles tendinopathy, that are resistant to other forms of therapy.
Leigham Practice is also one of London’s longest-established and pioneering centres for Low Level Laser Therapy, sometimes referred to as “cold lasers” or “photobiomodulation”, which we use to treat these stubborn problems without pain or side effects.
Our 30 year reputation for always aiming to cure and provide the most rapid, safe and sustained return to full fitness extends far beyond our neighbourhood and area, and we combine shockwave treatment with low-level laser therapy – two evidence-based treatments working with each other – at no additional cost. We call our treatment Shockwave “Plus“.
To see if shockwave treatment may help, simply make an initial appointment with one of our MSK team, physiotherapy or osteopathy, for an assessment and examination. If shockwave is appropriate, and you would like this treatment to be given at the same appointment, you need only pay an additional £35. If shockwave therapy is not appropriate, or you would like to come back another time to receive treatment, you need only pay for the assessment.
Initial physiotherapy or osteopathy assessment is £90.
Shockwave included with initial appointment is an additional £35.
Shockwave follow-up appointment at other times is £95.
Good to know – Shockwave “Plus” is usually effective in four treatments, or fewer.
Also good to know – our team specialises in the treatment of problems that have been difficult to resolve, so please contact us today with questions about your problem and we’ll ask our team if they feel we can help.
Is Shockwave effective?
Yes. There is a great deal of research proving it is effective treatment, and it’s been approved as a safe treatment by NICE as ‘safe’. SHockwave treatment is also recognised by BUPA and other major private health insurers, though you should always check your policy or get authorisation before attending.
What should I know before treatment?
We need to apply a handheld therapy device to the skin directly over and around the problem area. You can dress appropriately as we need to apply a gel to the skin to the treatment area, so think what to wear if we are treating sites such as the patella (knee) or shoulder.
Treatment is usually ‘tolerably uncomfortable’. This is normal, but our team will make sure that they will operate within the upper limits of your comfort.
It’s uncommon, but treatment can sometimes worsen your symptoms for the first couple of days following treatment. If this happens, see it as your body reacting to treatment and a good thing. We are open six days and four late evenings if you are concerned about your reaction to treatment.
What if shockwave is not a treatment I should have?
If, for any reason, we feel shockwave therapy is not something that you should receive, only our normal new patient assessment for physiotherapy, osteopathy or podiatry will be charged, even if we consider low-level laser therapy should be given during your treatment.
If you have pre-paid your shockwave therapy appointment (usually if you are a new patient to our practice) we will arrange a refund of the difference if shockwave is not considered appropriate..
