Natural, effective, long-lasting

Like acupuncture itself, FRA has only recently received the interest it deserves. While it cannot reshape your nose or chin, it can give you a more radiant skin, reduce fine lines and lift sagging skin, while improving overall health. It has been described as a safe, cost-effective alternative to a surgical face-lift as FRA works by stimulating normal processes.

How it works

Although treatment has many positive effects on your general health, FRA works in several key ways. By boosting the circulation to the skin and muscles, it ensures that the flow of nutrients is maximised, and the toxins that are naturally produced over time are removed and broken down. The lymphatic system (the network of tiny drainage vessels important to the skin, muscles and immune system) is also stimulated, ensuring that the drainage vessels are pumping more efficiently. Importantly, FRA also stimulates the production of new collagen, the natural protein that keeps skin smooth and elastic. It can also relax some facial muscles and help tone others, reducing problems such as eyelid drop. The results are to produce facial features that are tighter, smoother, brighter, and healthier, and reduces and minimises the appearance of fine lines. A study by the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture found that among 300 cases treated with facial acupuncture, 90% had marked effects on one course of treatment. Further independent studies are currently being conducted to investigate the wide-ranging effects.

Is it painful?

Acupuncture itself is rarely more than a dull ache, if anything at all. It’s usually described as deeply relaxing because of the release of endorphins and the side effects are few. The needles used are ultra fine, and not hollow (unlike those used to give analgaesic injections or to take blood samples) and there is only a slight risk of bruising.

Is it safe?

Yes. FRA does not involve the complications of surgery, the complications of collagen injection, or the side effects of Botox, such as flu syndrome, eye drooping, muscle weakness and difficulty swallowing. It does not involve surgery, but has been described as a safe equivalent of a non-surgical facelift.

How many treatments will I need?

In your first session, we will assess your medical history, skin care regimen and lifestyle in order to tailor your facial acupuncture treatment, which is then given at key points.

We expect that by four treatments the effects of treatment will be obvious, as the process is gentle and the body ‘gets into gear’ to stimulate collagen production. The effects build upon each previous treatment, so the effects are amplified.

We suggest 6-8 treatments should produce positive, lasting results.

We take photographs of problem areas and attached these to your electronic record, before and after, so changes can be assessed subjectively, objectively and accurately.
