Swedish Massage

First described in the 19th century Swedish massage is perhaps the cornerstone of many massage techniques, although cultures the world over throughout the centuries have used similar techniques to promote health. Stroking, needing and pressing the skin and soft tissues of the body can induce physical and mental relaxation.

Swedish Massage is a gentle massage that promotes a sense of well being as the stimulated nerves of the skin trigger the brain to release endorphins, the bodies ‘feelgood’ chemicals. Stronger techniques, such as those used in Deep/Strong Massage act on the circulation to stimulate oxygen and nutrients to tissues, which can accelerate healing and reduce pain and stiffness in muscles and joints. The massage can be tailored to the requirements of you, the individual, and are personalised accordingly.

The affects of stress can be attributed to conditions such as insomnia, headaches, migraines, hypertension, anxiety, digestive disorders, IBS to name only a few. A moment of true physical and mental relaxation can remind us how easy it can be to restore a balance in our busy, hectic lives and feel better in ourselves.

Swedish Massage is available Monday to Saturday.

Deep/Strong Massage

As the name suggests, this is a type of massage designed to loosen particularly tight structures. It is an excellent massage after sports training or where the demands of occupation or activity lead to a strain on the body. It is based upon the Swedish style and can focus on particular areas or groups of muscles.

Deep/Strong Massage is strongly recommended for all men, and women requiring intensive work (usually when massage is first started and the therapist has to work hard to get the muscles fully relaxed and free. Deep/Strong Massage is available Monday to Saturday.

Aromatherapy

The use of plants and herbs to promote well-being is as old as civilisation itself. Aromatherapy is the art and science of using naturally extracted essences from plants, flowers, roots, barks and resin which contain complex and powerful natural chemicals to balance and harmonise the body.

A personalised blend of essential oils are mixed and tailored according to particular requirements, creating a blend as unique as the individual, then applied using massage techniques to relax and body and mind and restore a natural equilibrium.

Aromatherapy can have physiological and psychological benefits. There is a great deal of research being undertaken world wide into the effects of massage and aromatherapy and researchers at the University of Miami have shown massage can reduce anxiety, help depression, ease PMS, lower blood pressure and boost the natural killer cells of the immune system. Research has also shown improved quality of life for patients with chronic illness.

Reflexology

Although the stimulation of the hands and feet in health systems can be traced back thousands of years to Egypt, India and China, modern Reflexology is attributed to an American Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon in early part of the last century who noted the application of pressure to certain parts of the body caused reflexes in places distant to these sites.

Reflexology is based on the principle that the feet and hands provide a reflection of the organs, glands and structures of the body. As such working on these reflexes has a direct effect on the functioning of the body as a whole.

The aim of Reflexology is to restore the body to a state of balance and health. It brings about a deep sense of relaxation and peace allowing you to draw fully on your body’s regenerative capacity and natural healing abilities. Reflexology is known to assist a wide range of symptoms and conditions including neck, back and headaches, hormonal imbalances including PMT and migraine, digestive complaints, nervous system disorders, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression and stress related conditions to name a few.

Reflexology is available Monday to Saturday.

Indian Head Massage

A deep a relaxing massage to the pressure points around the scalp, face, head, neck and shoulders, with specific movements to reduce stress, relieve headaches and anxiety and promote well-being. Indian Head Massage can help to reduce stress and fatigue, relax and rejuvenate.

This massage is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and alternate Saturdays.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is a very special time in every woman’s life. A time of great celebration and great change. Our therapists are able to offer a massage that is as unique as the individual to help promote and restore the feeling of relaxation and well-being. Massage can promote the release of endorphins by the brain; the body’s natural ‘pleasure’ chemicals will calm and relax both mum and baby.

Massage helps to encourage lymphatic flow, helping with puffiness and excess water retention, and blood flow, keeping circulation healthy.

Aches and pains, whether or not as a result of the pregnancy, can be relieved making the pregnancy more comfortable at every stage. The massage can be applied to specific areas, such as the legs, feet or back, or can be applied more generally, as you like.

Pregnancy Massage is available Monday to Saturday.
