Problems treated with Osteopathy

Types of problems treated

Osteopaths are most well known for their treatment of the spine/back by helping to reduce or resolve painful problems, thereby restoring mobility and improving quality of life. Martin's scope of practice extends far beyond the spine, literally, and he treats a wide range of problems, almost identical to the types of problems physiotherapists treat. Problems affecting bones, joints, ligaments, tendons muscles and nerves, particularly problems associated with posture, movement, work, sport, pregnancy, birth, sleep and the creeping effects of time.

Some problems have a cause that can easily be identified, for example injuries at home, in the workplace, or through sport. All that is required is for us to work out what was injured and what we can do to help the problem get better. So long as you don't interupt the healing process by injuring yourself again during your recovery most problems will get better. However, many problems occur without an obvious cause, and these are usually far more troublesome. It is obvious when you take time to think about it, but simply knowing what your problem is will not necessarily get you better. If the cause of your problem is not identified and removed, problems will persist, no matter what treatment you throw at it. This is where Martin's extensive knowledge and holistic approach seeks to uncover the cause of the problem and so provide long term relief and resolution.

As mentioned elsewhere Martin also practices Cranial Osteopathy, which is a gentle technique used for a wide range of problems and for which parents have found helped common baby problems such as wind and colic, or whose babies cry or are irritable when lying down. Martin can discuss the treatments he feels would be most beneficial as part of your first visit.
