Chronic Conditions if you are pressed for time, otherwise please read on.
"Chronic Conditions" is a term used to describe conditions which treatment can alleviate, but not cure. Examples of this would be allergies, asthma, eczema, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome and many others. Acupuncture can have a significant impact reducing symptoms and reducing/removing the need for drugs for a wide spectrum of chronic conditions.
Our acupuncture team work closely with patients, GP's and other medical professinals to ensure that any underlying problems are investigated, and where these have been investigated you may discuss options regarding the management of your condition or symptoms. The benefits of acupuncture are that it is suitable for all ages, is natural, has very few side-effects and can be effective in the treatment of a wide range of conditions.
Our team are able to offer traditional techniques, including cupping and moxibustion, together with acupressure, massage, diet, nutritional advice and other natural remedies where appropriate to maximise health benefits. This leaflet provides a brief summary of some of the problems acupuncture can be used to help.
Skin conditions
Acupuncture has been found to be helpful in the treatment of a wide variety of common skin such as eczema and psoriasis. Acupuncture aims to reduce inflammation and therefore the need for medication, such as topical steroids, which can have long term negative side-effects.
Headaches, Migraines, Anxiety, Depression
Although each of these conditions is a separate problem, acupuncture has been used to help improve symptoms in these conditions. It can be used to raise energy levels and also to support people suffering from a wide range of conditions.
Hypertension
Acupuncture can be used as an adjunct to try and help lower high blood pressure and aims to reduce the dosage of medication needed to take to adequately control hypertension.
Asthma & Hay Fever
Acupuncture has been used to relieve symptoms for patients with Bronchial Asthma and is suitable for children and adults. It has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis (SAR), or Hay Fever as it is more commonly known. Acupuncture again is suitable for all ages, can reduce the need for medication and is also entirely suitable for people with sensitivities to drugs and sprays.
Allergies
We have already mentioned eczema, asthma and hay fever, but acupuncture is also used to reduce symptoms and help relieve suffering for a wide variety of allergies.
Digestive Problems, IBS, Constipation
Acupuncture can help improve flow through the digestive tract and can be used with great success to treat many symptoms associated with stomach and bowel complaints.
Arthritis, Back Pain and Rheumatic Disorders
Perhaps the most widely researched use of acupuncture has been the investigation into it’s effects in relieving pain and inflammation in a wide variety of chronic conditions affecting the back, joints and connective tissue of the body. Acupuncture can reduce or relieve completely symptoms, reducing the need for pain controlling and anti-inflammatory medication. Acupuncture has the advantage of having few side effects and can be used alongside drug therapy, although it aims to reduce dependence on medication over time.
Repetitive Strain Injury & Tendonitis
Acupuncture is effective in treating a wide variety of inflammatory conditions affecting muscles, ligaments and tendons.
Nerve Entrapment, Sciatica, CTS & TN
Pain due to nerve entrapment can range from mild irritation and burning through to severe pain and disability. Surgery often carries significant risks, physiotherapy may be unsuccessful and drug therapy often has side effects. Acupuncture has been used very successfully in the treatment of pain associated with trapped nerve conditions such as sciatica, carpel tunnel syndrome and trigeminal neuralgia, and other similar conditions.
The above list is not inclusive of all ailments acupuncture can help. If you have a problem that is not specifically mentioned above our acupuncturists will be happy to give you a call and discuss your case and explain if they feel acupuncture can help your problem.
